About this Condition

Pericardial fat refers to a thicker than usual layer of fat surrounding the outside of the heart.

It is usually present adjacent to the bottom of the heart (resting on the diaphragm) and is commonly seen in overweight individuals who have or are developing metabolic syndrome (diabetes).

*TrueScan scans are not designed to evaluate the heart, however some cardiovascular condition can be detected.
