About this Condition

Knee replacement (or knee arthroplasty) is a surgical procedure that is done to relieve the pain and restore the function of a knee joint which has been severely damaged by arthritis or a knee injury.

During the operation the original joint is partly or completely removed and replaced with an artificial joint made of metal, plastic, and/or ceramic parts.
