About this Condition

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a benign type of tumor which originates within the pancreatic duct.

As their name implies, these tumors excrete mucus, which in turn can create cysts within the pancreas/pancreatic ducts.

As an IPMN can at any stage evolve to pancreatic cancer, it is known as a precancerous condition.

Therefore monitoring or preemptive surgery are options with an IPMN.
