About this Condition

Hydatid cysts are formed as a result of an infection of Echinococcus, commonly known as tapeworm.

When the eggs of a tapeworm are ingested, the embryo which are released from an egg form the hydatid cyst.

The egg grows 5-10cm in the first year and is able to survive for years, even decades.
