Horseshoe kidney

Horseshoe kidney is a congenital disorder that occurs during fetal development where the kidneys fuse together to form a horseshoe shape.

The area that is joined together is called the isthmus.

This is the most common renal fusion anomaly and does not normally impair renal function.
