About this Condition

Hip replacement (or hip arthroplasty) is a surgical procedure that is done to relieve the pain and restore the function of a hip joint severely damaged by arthritis or a hip fracture.

During the operation the original joint is partly or completely removed and replaced with an artificial joint made of metal, plastic, and/or ceramic parts.
