About this Condition

Heterogeneous appearance of the thyroid refers to the MRI appearance of the thyroid gland which gives the appearance of a mixture of soft tissue and cystic changes.

This commonly occurs when there is the appearance of a thyroid goiter or after an episode of thyroid inflammation.

The thyroid gland is most commonly assessed by ultrasound.
