About this Condition

A brain infarct is a region of dead tissue in a portion of the brain as a result of the loss of oxygen and nutrients.

It is the end result of blocked or narrowed feeding arteries.

If blood flow to a certain area in the brain is disrupted (condition also known as a stroke) for a long period of time (minutes) brain cells start to die leading to an infarcted area.
